Nana

By some amazing luck, I got to review one of Ai Yazawa's work, Nana! No, it's not some tropical fruit or anything like that. It's a name. FYI, Ai Yazawa also created Paradise Kiss, in case you haven't notice. ;)

Anyway, from the cover, you can see a little bit of Paradise kiss in it already. The realistic picture, and atmosphere and the type of character. But it's not another Paradise Kiss kind of story though.

This one is about two girls who happen to share the same name and their love lives. One Nana is such a fickle person when it comes to falling in love. When I say fickle (not sure whether I'm using it right) I mean after falling in love with one handsome guy and not having that love returned for some reason, she goes on to fall in love with the next handsome guy.

The other Nana is the girl on the cover. She's an orphan, working as a singer in a local rock band group in some local club. She already has a relationship with the lead guitarist. The lead guitarist kinda remind me of the main character in Paradise Kiss but more open and carefree. One day, the guy chose to leave the group to move to Tokyo to join a band that's about to be signed. He wanted Nana to come along, but she chose to stay because she also wants to become a singer but without the influence of his success.

The interesting thing about this manga, is it doesn't start off with both characters. The author introduces one Nana first in the first half of the manga, and then the other Nana in the second half. So, you are left wondering how they are suppose to meet. But it's Ai Yazawa so I'm looking forward to the 2nd volume. ^_^ I'd give this a tentative 3 out of 5.

sounds normal... but it's hard to say whether it's actually good or worth reading until one actually reads the story and see the quality of the pictures for oneself. :P

Well, yeah. ;D And it's still hard to tell from just the first volume. But I'm getting positive vibes from it!
